Additionally, take a look at the state of the emails, if they are not set to send = yes they won't be processed, but will just sit there. Open an email, click on "Display Advanced Options" and choose Yes from the drop down. Click On the tab "Message Information". If your messages are not set with the field Send Message showing Yes they will not be sent out even if your email engine is working. I have had so many problems with the email engine that I automatically restart it twice a day and change that value for any messages that got stuck in the queue via an escalation.
