Hi Norm
My understanding of licensing needed is as follows, depending on which modules you install. For the full ITSM 7 suite you need the following: AR Server License Application Modules: BMC Remedy Service Desk Application License BMC Remedy Asset Management Application License BMC Remedy Change Management Application License BMC Service Level Management Application License BMC Remedy Knowledge Management Application License BMC Service Request Management (Requester Service Catalog Console) Application License And for impact assessment functionality. BMC Service Impact Manager Application License User licenses can be bought as straight ARS licenses with top-up licenses for each module, or combined ARS/App module licenses - the total cost is the same either way, but buying them separately is more flexible in your scenario: ARS User licenses - fixed and floating AM User Licenses - fixed and floating CM User Licenses - fixed and floating KB management - fixed and floating for administrators SRM - $10 per requester (this can be a big number !!) SIM User Licenses - fixed and floating Fixed license costs are easy to work out - just how many users for each module plus basic ARS fixed license for them all. Floating becomes more complicated. Assuming you have your 100 basic ARS floating licenses, I would assume that you should be able to purchase a smaller number of floating licenses for each module you use, so you might have 40 AM and CM floating licenses for example, and only some of your floating license users would be able to access these apps simultaneously. Someone mentioned a ratio of 8:1 for floats - your users really need to be **very** occasional users for this to be a viable ratio. Plan that each time a user touches the application, that license will be unavailable to anyone else for 2 hours on average, with license timeouts etc. If your floating users touch the application a couple of times a day each, you'll be closer to 2 or 3:1. If they log in a few times a month, you may get a better ratio. The hidden killer in this is the Service Request Management application - if you have 20,000 users you're supporting and you want them to access their tickets, this works out at $200k for their licenses. I'm not 100% sure what extra functionality this app gives them that isn't available in the normal Requester Console (does that still exist in 7 ??). Perhaps someone who's looked at it can comment. Oh, and then don't forget all the server, app and user licenses needed for your dev and test servers too. ITSM7 is getting expensive. It sounds like a case of double licensing to me. Buy this license to access the server and then this license to access the app! You need enough ARS licenses to accommodate the SUM of all of the application licenses you'll consume. Each registered user will need one ARS User license, and one or more ITSM application licenses, depending on their role(s). In recent discussions I had with BMC engineers, I was told this is no longer true. So my question is, if one wants, say, 100 floating licenses for ITSM, does he need to. 1. Buy 100 ITSM user licenses only 2. Buy 100 ARS licenses only 3. Buy 100 ARS licenses and a minimal number of ITSM user licenses (like what I described above) 4. Buy 100 ARS licenses AND 100 ITSM user licenses Thanks, Norm __20060125_______________________This posting was submitted with HTML in it___ __20060125_______________________This posting was submitted with HTML in it___ __20060125_______________________This posting was submitted with HTML in it___ _______________________________________________________________________________ UNSUBSCRIBE or access ARSlist Archives at www.arslist.org ARSlist:"Where the Answers Are"
