General "performance" should not be affected by such a change.  Back
in v5 I once took a dev server and loaded it up with over 500,000 User
entries to test this approach. In general I did not detect any major
slowdowns. I did however see some minor performance hit during ARS
password changes and other such User form updates. But I think that
change was more RDBMS related than ARS related.

I have not retested this condition with v6 or v7, but my expectations
would be to see no changes in general performance of the system.
