I assisted a client with transferring his custom application into ARS 7.1. This
worked. The amount of changes needed to do this with the 5.6 application would
not be limited to form names, the client would need to review all workflow to
re-connect to the new form. I did help a client bring over only the 5.6 forms
and?no workflow to 7.0 ITSM 7.0 and we only had to change the HPD:Helpdesk form
name

Subject: ITSM 5.6/ITSM 7.x Co-existence

Hi All,

I have a customer who is querying whether one can co-exist the ITSM
5.6 HelpDesk/Service Level Agreement applicatons and the ITSM 7.x
Suite on the same AR Server instance (7.x+). I have said it's not
supported, as it's only from ITSM version 7.x that BMC have allowed
different versions of the ITSM suite to work together on the same
server instance (e.g. ServiceDesk 7.0.x alongside Change Mgmt 7.5).
Has anyone ever tried to run with the aforementioned ITSM 5.6
applications alongside ITSM 7.x apps in the same 7.x server instance
environment?

Furthermore, the customer is considering, migrating his ITSM 5.6 apps
to the ITSM 7.x/AR 7.x environment, but re-naming the form names (as
there would be clashes no doubt) along with the related objects
(through the likes of notepad) to try and get the apps to co-exist. I
know ITSM 5.6 is supported on AR 7.5, but not alongside ITSM 7.x even
with the forms and objects renamed from the default ITSM object name.
Do you think this has any chance of working? My feeling is that it
would come a cropper somewhere along the line, so many variables e.g.
some core forms such as User/Group have special fields that the ITSM
app depends on and no doubt these have been tweaked between the
versions, in addition how would licenses be impacted, shr:application
properties?, perhaps it breaches the BMC agreement etc...

I know this is a highly unusual query but any feedback welcome, as I'd
like to cite some examples to try and direct the customer down the
best route (which is more than likely consolidate all parties onto the
ITSM 7.x apps).

Thanks In Advance,
Kevin
