Hey ccrashh... Just spent the last hour taking another quick tour of the Developer Studio and must say that I find the new look refreshing.
Yes indeed, it is cluttered, but if you play around long enough with a big enough monitor (or multiple monitors) you can easily change it to fit your desired perspective. One of the things that impressed me - was that it was not that difficult to find your way around - once you read a bit of the documentation. Very much like other IDE's like Visual Basic, Visual Dataflex, Realbasic etc.... Here are some of the new changes I noticed that I liked (for all I know they may not be new): 1) Multiple View By Form capabilities. 2) The ability to view all objects in a form outline and then view the properties in the property window while the item is highlighted on the form in the editor window. 3) Key Assist (Ctrl-Shift-L) - these are all the hot key shortcuts that can be used. I am not sure that you will be able to move as quickly using keystrokes as in the old tool - this will definitely be a new learning curve... 4) Auto Mapping during set fields and push field actions is very nice - since it allows you to do the mappings one at a time or all at once. If you do them all at once you can now remove fields - excellent feature. 5) The ability to filter and limit workflow objects that are being used in workflow (qualifications, if else actions etc.) is a nice innovation. 6) Multiple workspaces are very nice. 7) The tabular interface for looking at workflow objects is excellent. 8) The ability to zoom in and out on a view - will allow for the creation of nicer user interfaces. 9) Application Commands have been nicely integrated into the tool much the same way as functions, and keywords (with excellent help text). 10) Applying Group permissions appears to be a whole lot simpler and easier. 11) The ability to select all fields on a form and go to the properties window and do a bulk modify. I am sure that there are other efficiencies that I have not yet noticed. All in all - it is different, but I suspect that in time we will learn how to use it as efficiently as the previous tool... The bonus as I understand it - will be the ability to add new features in the future. One thing that would be nice - is the ability to copy parts of workflow If then Else statements to other pieces of workflow. All in all - I found that you can do everything that you used to do!
