What applications are we dealing with? If it's ITSM I'll let someone else answer...but in our environment it would be a big change because we use $SERVER$ in both filters and server side perl scripts ALLOT...so we would need to update all of that to accommodate the new domain....but you would need to know your system and its workflow to know if that sort of change would affect your custom system, if you are custom.
