That's my understanding about how it works...any name you want the server to recognize as 'self'...should go in the config under that parameter.

We have two servers, one active and one passive. We use a virtual name and IP to access our environment. So in each .cfg file I just add the same information for both, correct? Thanks, Roger A. The parameter can appear in the ar.conf (ar.cfg) file more than one time. When checking workflow and connections against itself, the server will compare its server name, host name, IP aliases, and any names given by the IP-Name parameter to the name passed to it. If the name matches any of those, the server will conclude that the workflow or connection is for itself. The IP-Name parameter can be used for servers with variable length domains or for servers on machines with multiple internet addresses. For example, to allow connection to a machine named tix as tix, tix.company.com, or tix.eng.company.com, an administrator would have three IP-Name entries, one for each of the connection names. To allow connection to a machine with multiple internet addresses like tix.company.com, tix.biggercompany.com, and tix.evenbigger.com, an administrator would create an IP-Name entry for each of those names. --------- Thad Esser Remedy Developer "Argue for your limitations, and sure enough, they're yours."-- Richard Bach |------------> | From: | |------------> >----------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------------------------------------------------ ---| |"Nall, Roger" <roger.n...@t-mobile.com> | >----------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------------------------------------------------ ---| |------------> | To: | |------------> >----------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------------------------------------------------ ---| |arslist@ARSLIST.ORG | >----------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------------------------------------------------ ---| |------------> | Date: | |------------> >----------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------------------------------------------------ ---| |04/17/2009 07:57 AM | >----------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------------------------------------------------ ---| |------------> | Subject: | |------------> >----------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------------------------------------------------ ---| |Re: OT-Domain Name Change | >----------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------------------------------------------------ ---| |------------> | Sent by: | |------------> >----------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------------------------------------------------ ---| |"Action Request System discussion list(ARSList)" <arslist@ARSLIST.ORG> | >----------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------------------------------------------------ ---| ** While we have several 3rd party integrations most all use either a short name or IP address. I believe your main impact will be client connections. This includes any web service integrations you may have. Any thing connecting to your servers either native or web will need to know the new fqdn, unless all of your connections use the short name, in that case you wouldn't need to do anything other than update the DNS...do you have many 3rd party integrations? If it's ITSM I'll let someone else answer...but in our environment it would be a big change because we use $SERVER$ in both filters and server side perl scripts ALLOT...so we would need to update all of that to accommodate the new domain....but you would need to know your system and its workflow to know if that sort of change would affect your custom system, if you are custom.
