We have been very happy with the performance of our ARS 7.1.00.002 ITSM
7.0.02/3.007 system in production for the past year:

DB: SQL Server 2005 Std x64 on Windows Server 2003 Enterprise x64 on an HP
DL385 with two (2) Dual core 2.6 ghz Opterons and 10 gb RAM
NOTE: There are issues with efficient memory use for SQL Server
2005 STANDARD x64 that can be avoided by using Enterprise x64; our SQL Server
2008 installs will all be Enterprise

ARS and Apps: Windows Server 2003 Enterprise x64 on an HP DL380 G5 with two (2)
Quad core 2.33 ghz Xeons and 12 gb RAM

Mid-Tier and Kinetic web with separate Tomcat instances: Windows Server 2003 R2
Enterprise x64 on an HP DL380 G5 with two (2) Quad core 1.87 ghz Xeons and 12
gb RAM

As we get ready to upgrade to 7.5, we expect to change only the DB server,
which we are already testing:

7.5 DB: SQL Server 2008 Enterprise x64 on Windows Server 2008 Enterprise x64 on
a Dell R710 with two (2) Quad core 2.27 ghz Nehalems and 12 gb RAM

They _made_ me buy a Dell (I have two racks of HPs and am loathe to change
brands) so I _made_ them get me a new one with Nehalem processors. These
should help SQL Server quite a bit, but would most likely be wasted on any of
the still 32-bit BMC Remedy products.

Subject: OT:Server Configuration

**
Okay, I am not trying to start a debate. I am only looking for some
information. We need to replace my production environment. We are currently in
a Windows environment on XP. We have 7k+ users but concurrent connections are
750 max. We are going to stay in windows and go to a Server Group. I am just
looking for recommendations for processor speed, memory, number of processors,
etc. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,
