I am no longer on that account but this is what I recall from memory. I
could get some more specifics if anyone else can detect the same on a
similar environment.

The Mid-Tier was installed on LINUX (I could get specifics of the version if
needed), using Apache / Tomcat as the web server / jsp engine version 5.5.25
if I remember correctly. I know it was 5.5, just a little unsure if the
patch drop was 25 or 27, but I think it was 25.

I tried viewing these forms with table fields on Firefox 3 and above
experiencing the same problem I described earlier. It worked fine with
almost all supported versions of IE I tried on. I tried both the browsers on
XP Home as well as professional edition, Windows 2000 professional, with the
same results.. I had the recommended version of JDK and JRE - I can get
specifics on that if needed.

  Joe,
Can you give us exact specifics of your Mid-Tier install....I don't see
why it would be mid-tier install related if it works properly from the same
client in IE, but maybe someone from the list can confirm the problem.

  I'm on Mid-Tier 7.1.0 patch 004 (on Solaris with Apache/Tomcat) using
Firefox 3.0.16 and the column headers in my table fields are just fine.

That's weird.. (honestly I don't recall checking if Firefox was
supported - I just use Firefox more than IE hence I noticed that bug)

BMC should raise that up as a software bug with 7.1 if they really support
Firefox..

I haven't tested it on platforms other than Linux, but with MT installed
on Linux (and Windows too I think), the column names of table fields, do not
display. You just see solid blue bars where the column names should have
been contained in those bars. I tried it with Firefox 2 and 3 and even
updated to the latest drop of Firefox but that didn't resolve the issue.

Try the same mid-tier web page using IE and it works fine.. The column
names display as they should..

I am not 100% certain about whether it works on 7.5 Mid-tier correctly.

That's weird, I just checked the 7.1 Compatibility matrix today and it
says that Firefox 2.0 and newer is supported.

Earlier versions of the Mid-Tier (I checked until 7.1 - all patches) had
a problem where the column names of table fields would not be displayed,
rather the column title bar would just be a solid blue block with no titles
if Firefox was used as a browser. I do remember trying to test this on 7.5,
and do not recall the results.. Does it work?? Do the column names display?

I had raised this as an issue with BMC and I was told that Firefox was
not a supported browser back then. I do not recall them having raised a
software bug.

Also consider upgrading your Mid-Tier to 7.5 patch 4 and using Firefox
instead of IE

Tweaking the JVM Heap Size to an optimum size on the server running
the Mid-Tier is about the only major consideration apart from the fact that
you may have to also account for number of users that would be using the
application through the internet.. For a large user base you will need to
consider a load balanced solution, with an appropriate number of servers
behind a load balancer..
