Actually, you could also use the "Get Authority" type rules within Approval to get this data so that you can build the entire gathering of data and the determination of who to get to approve into the approval process without having to create filters on the source form. This is a superior method to keep the approval definition and process self-contained rather than relying on something outside it to give it data.
There was a mention that what is requested is available in SRM 7.6. It is -- and I think done using the filter approach. But since then, the team has realized that there are "Get Authority" rules (this rule type has been available in the approval server for 10+ years but many people just were not aware of it) and that will be the approach used in the future. Either the filter on SRM approach or the rules in the approval process will allow you to accomplish what you are looking for in a straight-forward way. However, on the Approval Mappings, the mapping criteria is only Navigation Categories, SRD Information and Requestor Information. Is there any way out-of-box to do approvals based on the requestor's department e.g. for IT, the approval go to a certain group and for HR, the approvals to another group. I saw it was possible with change and I am wondering why not for Service Requests. I will be very grateful for any help.
