I didn’t mean a server wide setting.. but a developer can choose to have his studio (client) in base development mode instead of best practices which is the default recommended mode post version 7.6.04..

However, as mentioned, it therefore affects every user and every operation – so it cannot be used to do what the original requestor was asking for. The option was put in place for two primary use cases: 1. A developer wants to see how all the base objects / functionality work together without any customizations / extensions (i.e. without any overlays). 2. A developer has added customizations and extensions that have caused the entire system to become unstable. The developer can choose to turn off all overlays and use the system OOTB - without having to restore a DB backup - until the overlay issues can be addressed. -David J.
