Faced similar issue on 8.1 but not really something like "1" character however I'll try changing password on our server where we still have 8.0.1 installed and see whether I face similar issue.. as far as 8.1 is concerned, simply changing password on Server information form does not work!! And I used the config file to rectify the issue...More to come on this!
