Werner, Why can't you accept that the world has changed? People don't vacation in Monmouth County anymore. They used to, but no more. New Jersey's party spots (and therefore its vacation/tourist destinations) are Ocean, Atlantic and Cape May Counties.
Go ask any travel agent across the country. Monmouth County is not on their radar. No one is recommending it as a vacation spot. Look at the facts: Sea Bright, Long Branch, Belmar have all shunned their traditional tourism in favor of year-round economies, joining neighboring towns that never were huge tourist draws like Allenhurst, Avon and Spring Lake. Asbury Park will always be a local draw, as it should be. Fishman doesn't want that to go away. The day-trippers will always come and there will always be entertainment and shopping for them under this plan. To return to the vacation destination this place was in the 40's and 50's? Forget it. It won't happen. Since Asbury will always be a place that people visit for a day anyway, we don't have to go out of our way to attract that. It will come no matter what. What wasn't happening, that we did have to attract, was residents with money. That's what Asbury Park lacked. That's what Asbury Park needed. That is what this plan will bring. That's why this plan is good. --- In [email protected], "wernerapnj" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote: > What are the REAL issues? > > May 2003 - > > http://groups.yahoo.com/group/AsburyPark/message/2784 > > Werner ------------------------ Yahoo!
