Tom, You have this terrible habit of making assumptions about other people's state of mind. Very condescending and I thought a learned attorney would be above such behaviour. Yes the world has changed and city planning has evolved, as have many related fields of study. I fear it's you that is stuck in the past supporting decades old stratagies of high density residential evelopment for Asbury Park. Perhaps you just never studied the certain subjects. Why don't you do some research into the current 'state-of-art' in - urban renewal, heritage tourism, preservation economics, neighborhood revitalization, etc. You would learn something instead of labeling people you disagree with as 'living in the past, "Nostalgia-Nazis", not accepting that the world has changed', etc. Comparing Asbury Park to the towns you cite above borders on the absurd. All of them had their own unique evolution and some have captalized on preserving a unique character. None of them have the assets, heritage and name recognition that Asbury Park has. No has ever said they are anti-residential it's just that this waterfront plan is so one sided that it stifles the survivability of places like the Con.Hall and Casino. I believe you even agreed with me at one time that the residential density should be moved north and east to open up the 'circuit' for more entertainment/attraction uses.
