Casper, Steen,
If this project does start to roll, please keep the ASN.1 group in the loop. We have done several partial specs using ASN.1 and one full one, and in each case it was not immediately obvious what sort of constructs to use to achieve the desired encoding. We would be happy to give advice where we can.

Steen,
Have you estimated the cost to write that spec?

I did a lot of work on this topic around 1991-92 after having coded a TCAP and MAP (Mobile Application Part) encoder/decoder for a protocol analyser firm.
The ISUP was of prime importance for 20ieth century telecom.
I do not know about the 21. century but I am interested in hearing views on this ?
I noticed that Siemens in their development efforts had one man dedicated to hunt an abstract level definition of the ISUP.
These efforts were combined with others to form ASN.1/ECN. (Pls. update/correct me if needed).
It would be a great thing to have an open doc. that described the ISUP in ASN.1/ECN but I am aware that it must have cost some man hours to develop so it can parse and generate encoders /decoders that will go down the line and integrate with TCSP, MAP etc.
I have no connections with protocol analyser firms, telecomms black boxes manufacturers etc. I work as a high school teacher in maths/phys/computer science and I act as telecomms advisor in my one man firm now.
I would be delighted to take on the task of writing a public ISUP definition in ASN.1/ECN if anyone would pay me. But I realise it would be quite some task.

Hi All,
Are there ASN.1 specification files for ITU ISUP messages
(like TCAP asn.1
at ITU site)?
As you can see by yourself at http://www.itu.int/ITU-T/asn1/database/itu-t/q/index.html the answer is NO! -- Olivier DUBUISSON
