My comments for now: 1) A time estimate for writing an ASN.1/ECN spec would be based on the no. of info elements (i.e.) that had to be included. There is a vast list of info elements in the ISUP and no manufacturer / country /telecomms operator wants them all.
Pls. can you provide a list of the neccesary IEs ? 2) Olivier - "Proprietary" seems not to be the word here. Let us agree that the ISUP spec is ITU specified. You wrote One purpose of ECN (Encoding Control Notation) defined in ITU-T Rec. X.692 | ISO/IEC 8825-3 (and associated with ASN.1) is to describe proprietary encodings. See: http://asn1.elibel.tm.fr/ecn/ The case of TUP ISUP SCCP etc. is that these brave ITU specs were written before anyone had thought of ASN.1. I somehow think it would be most fair if ITU funded a translation *and* standardisation of ASN.1/ECN versions of these protocols. 3) Olivier - Can you tell us which company already has fulfilled the task? Siemens ? Or will someone from that company step forward ? I consider it quite some heavy task. its worth giving a hand. Also if we cannot share the outcome in public.
