Not my intent here to come to others' defense. Dilip Deka, I am sure, can
defend his position well here. But my two bits below:

**** Been there, done that.
But the question remains, unanswered and un-addressed,
about the wisdom of siphoning off limited PUBLIC resources or demanding it; to
reward a FEW. The few who may opt to become Babus, or leave for the UK or the
USA, and the rest become paper-pushing clerks rising up the ladder of
seniority, producing LITTLE. No doubt there would be exceptions. But the
exceptions contribute little to nation building.
No one would deny that there is indeed a need for professionals in
society: Doctors, engineers etc. But it cannot be THE only need. Therefore the
limited PUBLIC resources MUST be allocated carefully, wisely -- to produce
what is needed MOST by society, for the greatest benefit to the people.
you will understand why it is
important. (I had seen poor people dying in the train) And ask some-one
(should be from the region) in IITG, how it may help in some way
besides employment and prestige. (RB is right). >Emplyement and prestige!!!
**** Employment and prestige for a FEW at the cost of the general
public's good is NOT the state's business. If individuals seek that, let them.
Why should everyone have to sacrifice for the prestige or employment of a few?
The argument is a very simple-minded one at best. Immature one.
But I understand where it comes from: From the same outlook that accepts
and
even defends a perverse system that robs the public of its resources to
re-distribute it to enrich a few, in an egregious display of reverse
Robinhood-ism.
Coming to museum, (even I am not very
sure how it will help people of assam in a big way), it will surely help in
saving some money for people like Mr.Deka who likes to visit
museum, at least for those who do not have enough and can not afford to
visit different states!!!
*** Indeed. And that is very thoughtful. But again, it is a matter of
prioritizing. What is MORE important for the greater good of the largest
sector of the population? Is a Museum of Science and Technology more important
for the state than childhood immunization for example?
>(it is easy to say something sitting in an a/c room than seeing the
real >world),
**** That is not a very bright argument. Means nothing. Just because the
argument comes from someone who is privileged, does not ever mean that its
merit is thus reduced, devalued.

Absolutely correct. How does installation of an IIT or an
AIIMS campus help Assam in solving the real problems? Why were these
included in AASU demands to start with?
I also keep hearing about demand for museums - oil museum
here, tea museum there. What will a museum bring to Assam, except for a
few non-productive jobs. Don't get me wrong, museums are great and I
visit them when I can. But what does a museum bring to Assam at this
time?

I lost Changmai's link.
Can you please forward to him and to assamnet -with proper
labelling etc?
mm
Changmai-new to the
net ?
He added a few points to the
exchange going on between Chan
&Partha.
- We had to sacrifice hundreds to
get IIT: WrongAASU did never fight and die for an IIT,a Gas
Cracker ,a Refinery,a CULTURE?complex .In a final midnight
document ALL these were there and they
signed!
Assam does not need IITs when hundreds of Engin! eering Degree
holders are produced each year and none have done any Engineering
YET.. And a few Assam Candidates are taken in by IIT Gauhati out of
some Guilt Complex.Bulk are from India-get stamped and they are of
no use to India certainly none for Assam.
- Whole of NE needs an AIIMS Class
Med College : One is almost ready in Shillong. As if 3
Existing Med Colleges are not bad enough- Elections are near and
Tarun announced 3 more Half-Med colleges to be ready in a few
months!
I think you need better nutrition and health and meaningful
worknot hundreds of Nursing Homes, Diagnostic Centers, Druggists
with vast stocks of Strong Medicines and
AIIMS.
On Assam Front Changmai is
unhappy that:
1.
APSC results never get
announced and recruitments are defective-- .Actually you should
cry out against Government Babu Armies
2.
Pitying about the hordes of
boys and girls- robbing their parents of Their Easy Moneys and
enrolling in Delhi,Pune,South---into some I.T or Computer
or Advanced course and getting LOST.
3.
14 Assam MPs sleeping
inside the parliament never venturing to utter a view, debate any
issue ,due to their inability to speak ANY language and having
no confidence in themselves
!
All in all we have no choice
le! ft but to Rebuild Assam as a Sovereign Unit and thus Rebuild
India. The time is Now! Not 2025 the year BY which Kalam wants India
to be a Super Power.
