Wonderful Manoj and Rabin,

I would also love to know the mystery of PHUKAN's being BRAHMIN or Bamun!! I
come across lot many Phukans and before meeting them I was keen to see a
gigantic sturctured Chaodang man, but when met them, they were lean people and
when asked they say as Bamuns ! LIke Late Bhrigu da- my past friend and so many.

Why I said about Phukan are strong that during my schol days all Police SI used
to be either Gogoi or Phukans,Borah or Kalita /Talukdars.Those gogoi/Phukan was
live example of Chaodangs !!! Criminals was scared more of them then the sin.

If Manoj could help me to get some Buranjee gyan, this will help me to narrate
my tourists too.(me not joking)

thanks.

I think history knowledge on Ahom Kingdom that Manoj possesses is commendable,
now we have an idea about Gogoi (like Pradip Gogoi and Tarun Gogoi).

How about Burhagohai and Rajkhowa, like Bhimkanta Burhagohain and Arabinda
Rajkhowa?

Thanks,
Rabin

"In any case let me tell you how this Gogoi clan has evolved. During Swargodew
Rudra Singha's time, the descendants of the four Ahom royal clans have
multiplied manifold, during that period Ahoms were adopting other people in a
great fervour as their land was expanding and they needed more manpower and
real descendants were losing royal favour. They demanded special recognition
and Swargodew allowed them to be called 'Songoi-' or 'songoti'- which over time
became 'Gogoi'-due to linguistic corruption." --
