I wish everyone of us had that much of interest in our history as Manoj has
cultivated. It is ironical that most of our educated elite hardly knows about
much of Assam History and its uniqueness. And they do not show any interest in
it.

The reason I referred to Nirode barooah's article was that he is the only
modern historian who has been able to put light into the pre-independence part
of Assam History and what role different people played in it. People like
Amalendu Guha will never get rid of their guilt conscious that they mistrusted
Gopinath Bordoloi and thought they will be able to save Sylhet for India and
our miserably outmaneuvered by the Muslim League. Now they blame Bordoloi for
losing Sylhet.

The tragedy is that for the trash that is "Planters Raaj to Swaraaaj", its
author is still regarded as an intellectual in Assam and one of the thought
leaders. On the other hand, Nirode Baruah has, for the last fifteen years,
written extensively on the most decisive phase of Assam's history in Praantik,
but has failed to evoke any response to his erudite writings or work. As Bikash
has said, it was left to Lt. Gen. Sinha to reglorify lachit and Gopi Bordoloi,
whom we Assamese seem to have forgotten.
