Yes, ok... but the problem are the outdated version still floating
around
and which DON'T have such a built-in mechanism AND which won't
probably be updated anytime soon; in such cases the only solution is
the draconian one used by some DNSBLs when they closed, that is,
change things so that the admins WILL have to move their fat ass and
investigate about some "malfunction" ... and discover that they'll need
to update things :)

In out case, setting up some mechanism to forbid griplist access from
outdated versions (ok... I'm not suggesting to "crash" them but... <eg>)
may "ring some bell" and force some sleeping admins to upgrade their
ASSP installs :D

Hm... no, see, you can't tell if a given running ASSP may be stopped at
a given time (even for a short while); better imHo the notification
email;
just ensure to resend it at intervals :) also, and since we're at it,
since
ASSP connects to the "mothership" for version checking it may ALSO
in case there's an update, fetch a "notice" file and include the infos
from
such a file in the notification email; such a file may then be used to
let
the admins know that they MUST upgrade since "the new version fixes
bug x, y and z" ... and so on :) uh... btw an automatic update option
may
still be there, just ... make it optional please (I prefer doing that by
hand
and at a time when I know that it won't "break" things :D - see, "peak
hours" aren't the same around the globe ;-D)
