The machines are not using even remotely similar hardware. NS1 has  
real server-grade hardware, and gateway is just a spare low-end  
desktop. I'm not physically near either of the boxes, so I can't  
exactly reinstall the OS (nor do I really want to). I used apt-get to  
install all the perl modules, except for the clamav module, which I  
downloaded and installed by hand.

Should I try ASSP 1.3.5 and see if it behaves better?
I can't be rebooting servers daily all the time :P
