Garrett,
So trying to use some simple procedures here, your issue sums up as follows
(cmiiw):
1. Hardware ruled out (Dissimilar hardware on two flaky setups)
2. OS Ruled out (Others using it with success)
3. ASSP version ruled out (your using a stable release we all use without
trouble)
4. Perl and modules?? (not sure here, your Perl version is that of what others
use? Where did you get your modules? Cpan or from stable vendor repo?)
5. External factors remains.

Someone chime in here, but I am not sure there is much left to look at inside
your box. Do you maybe have network setup issue, like firewall/switch doing
something strange that the Perl code gets tangled over? Possibly it doesn't
handle something gracefully.

Did you look into running Perl with some sort of debugging as per the Perl
lists reco's? If you can see what it was doing when it tanked, I can clearly
see how that would be helpful :)
