I quickly checked that tutorial and it seems to make it overly complex 
and also tells you to install in /usr/local, but /opt is the standard 
place to install 3rd party programs. It's really very easy, just unpack 
assp in /opt and install the init script. Create a few cron jobs for its 
"housekeeping" and you're set... to configure the thing through the web 
interface, if not done yet.

I could send you the init script I use privately if you want.
