The google "enterprise" solution is mostly good for off loading the responsibility of downtime off of the mail admin's hands onto the other company. Which can be nice and comfy, when you can say "email^w^w^w call the google heldesk" when email's not working. You easily have longer uptime numbers with a reasonably stable home internet connection and an always on unix box. But then that server isn't dealing with high volume email. The thing that should most worry any careful company is that google will use all the email data it can gather for its data mining purposes. All the emails which go through their servers are pretty much stored forever even if you delete it. Your sensitive company information can be read by 3rd parties. And last but not least, there is no guarantee that your outsourced solution will still be around 10 years from now, or be still in the email business. I can imagine google stopping this whole enterprise email solution in a few years (or downscaling it), since it could easily be a loss making business throughout its existence. What's more likely to happen before that is that its service is crippled both by traffic as well as reputation due to spam and (unwilling) spam facilitation.
