Why not HylaFax?

Unless I misunderstand, Hylafax is an entirely separate application
requiring separate hardware. I was hoping, and maybe I'm way off
base, to do it with just Asterisk.

There seems to be lots of work around faxing but I see reports from
one extreme to another. Some have said "Fax is not possible on digium
hardware" but then some people seem to be doing it with a product
called IAXmodem which is a software DSP for IAX. How weird is that.
