Not true; a new voicemail system would most certainly have an abstracted 
storage class; IMAP, ODBC and filesystem storage would all be on the map, I 
would imagine.

I personally love IMAP storage for all the reasons you'd already stated, and 
more.  it's really not a big deal, either.
