I am interested in a similar solution and like Jim was looking to delete the
PRI requirements in the host machine(s) and also worried (only because of
unconventionality and no experience) about the USB/Zaptel deal on Xorcom. 

The quad T1 card really hurts the price/port although undoubtedly the
quality would be there.

Any time I hear high density FXS, I think channel banks.  A quad T1 card and
a 
pair of CAC IIs will get you 96 ports, telco-grade, no hassles.  **AND** it 
terminates to standard D50.
