There are "bridging" software that will bring Skype calls into a SIP
world. These are crude. I tried PSGW some months ago. In general they
hook into the Skype API requiring that you have Skype installed and
running on a Windows system. Then they intercept the calls to the audio
hardware and redirect them to what is essentially a SIP soft phone. It
decodes the Skype call then re-encodes as G.711 and feeds it to
Asterisk as a SIP call.

This process introduces a lot of latency. Too much to be acceptable for
my use. Also, it only worked one call at a time, so trunking was not
possible. And of course, you need a Windows box running Skype. Seems
more trouble than its worth.

There are now at least four different software products that try to do
about the same thing. All work in essentially the same manner.
