I live in Spain. Here, as like in Europe and South America, a big percent of
the companies/people buys Digium hardware mainly. Also we use Junghanns
(Ingmar told it just one moment ago) an OpenVox. Rhino and others much less.
Analogue lines are inexpensive because (A/S/V)DSL connections involve a free
landline number without any montly cost, doesn't matter how much you call,
so analogue lines are present in almost all instalations (either home or
office). We use to use it as a ZAP alternative and/or emergency channel (for
112/911 calls and ANI/ALI related services).
(Euro) ISDN is becoming inexpensive with the pass of the time and it
provides a lot of channels (24 in Europe) with just one card. Almost all
down-to-earth companies have ISDN at office.
Among HPEC, OSLEC is becoming quite familiar in the Asterisk instalations
because it works really fine, is easy to configure and mantain, and provides
a good algorithm for echo cancelation. I have it in my actual astlinux image
and works quite well. Less than 1 sec of echo when crossing Zap<->SIP.
Also, please, bear in mind another important thing. The actual telephone
systems in South America was mainly designed and installed by Telefonica de
España (the spanish telecommunications company) so, Spain and South America
works exactly the same way. Any tech problem in Spain have reflection there
and vice-versa. That's the reason because the Asterisk-ES mailing list have
so much associates (aprox 1200 people).
My idea for the future once AstLinux is at least in version 1.0 is to try
use it on servers with a reiser card for production environment.
