What i said is that voip market is not just a matter of traditional and big
telco's companies in Spain. The market is shared. Some companies are bigger
than others, but the typical ITSP is a group of individuals that got agreed
and started the ITSP just with their knowledge. Of course well stablished,
legal, and so forth.
The fact is that being smaller than traditional telco's helped them work
quite well. They are usually into the mailing lists (astlinux :) , asterisk,
openser, etc...) so they know what the people is being demanding and they
know what they can offer at the current state, so, at the end, it represents
a step ahead in business. Let's say they have a source of ideas and their
"time to market" is quite small, enough to exhaust the efforts of
traditional telco's. They cannot move as quickly and the market don't look
towards them in voip, so...., the market is somehow controled and closed in
favor of small companies.
The good news is that small cable companies or small telcos realized that
fact and signed agreements to work together with some ITS's. Knowing that,
as customer and profesional involved in this matter, if you know what you
need, you can find at the cost of a DSL line, products like my actual
package: 20Mbps/1Mpbs ADSL2+, free national calls, 1 DID from the place in
world you want, 1 fixed number of your province and 1 nomad number for just
34€/mo.
The bad news is that big telco's know the Achilles' heel of VoIP is energy
and signalling (, SS7 is expensive) with traditional operatosr, so they put
efforts in advertise this to big customers, and meanwhile they charge high
costs for SS7.
From the business point of view, and in terms of AstLinux, i would like to
put in service AstLinux in business grade installations sometime in the
future. It's exactly what we need: a system packaged, configurable, with an
easy system to administer the box, configuration is doing manually without
ugly gui's that include a lot of nasty macros, is a mini operating system
with just what is necessary and somehow extendable. There's no need for
anything else but maybe some not essential packages.
