What it means to me is I have no idea how to even BEGIN to build an AstLinux from trunk or use other than an img file I suspect there are others in my position, who's eyes glaze over when someone starts going on the way postings to the list have for some time now

Please don't think because everyone can't build a system, that no one is, or will be, using it. I have several people running the 4.8 system quite well on HP thin clients. I had a friend fix a serious flaw in the php script which allowed one to edit rc.conf with the FS set to r/o, which there was no interest in distributing. All of these are used in a private collectors network of antique telephone switches worldwide. One is in use in AU now, two others in the US with two more waiting in the wings, and interest in more, along with others using in a more conventional computer setup.

Let's not be so negative about AstLinux there IS interest. Not everyone wants or needs to be on the cutting edge, or jump into the Asterisk 1.4 tar pit quite yet. AstLinux is a great product. I am forever grateful for it and those who are smart enough to package it.

Just one persons opinion

So, since no one else seems to be using trunk besides you and me, does that mean AstLinux is done and development can be stopped? :-)

You must have fulfilled everyone's want and desire if no one needs to be running trunk...
