Hey Tom,

You won't be able to fit 3 24x FXS ports into a single system because you will need too much power to supply ringing to your phones connected to FXS ports.

The Mediatrix 1124 is about $1,600 brand new. The Digium 24 ports ePCI card sells for $1,530 at VoIP supply. The Sangoma 24 ports FXS sells between $1,600 and $1,960.

So the pricing between the gateway and cards seems to be pretty much the same. I prefer the gateway for better reliability and the voice quality is usually the same. You don't have to mess around with drivers when using the gateway FXS systems.

For your FXO, I would get another external FXO gateway from Quintum or Mediatrix.

You should be able to fit a PRI-T1 card in your system, but I don't think the net5501 can handle a full PRI-T1 with 23 active calls.

You will need a more powerful system to handle all the calls. Look at system base on Intel Atom CPUs. They're cheap and works really good.

Thanks.

Would this not work out more expensive than getting some internal
cards? I've used Digium and OpenVox ones, but would people recommend
something else as being more reliable/better quality (Sangoma/Rhino?).
If I put three 24-port PCI cards in, that would give me plenty of
capacity.

Not sure the Net 5501 can handle a full PRI-T1 card.

Can anyone confirm this? Can the net5501 handle a PRI card?

I'm not sure if you can mix
PRI-T1 cards with BRI or analog cards on the same system.

Again, can anyone confirm? I have set-ups with BRI and analogue, but
are you saying that PRI and analogue might not work together?

So, if I am trying to build a system with, say, 72 FXS, 3 FXO, and a
PRI, preferably running off CF, does anyone have any hardware
recommendations?

Thanks

Tom

I've been setting up some remote offices with net5501s, containing a
combination of TDM cards for POTS lines and ISDN BRI cards. I'm using
Snom SIP phones.

Our head office requires a bit more thought. It currently has an ISDN
PRI and three analogue lines, which I could handle in the same way as
the other sites (assuming the 5501's CPU is powerful enough to run a
PRI), but it also has around 60 phones. Replacing all of these with
SIP handsets would be extremely expensive. The CF-card approach of
Astlinux appeals to me, so what hardware would people recommend for
Astlinux to connect to all of the above?
