Ive seen those boards before.. im a little apprehensive when it says it is
a 486SX processor which would indicate no math coprocessor.. not sure how
it would handle transcoding and the like.
I like the ALIX and soekris boards..
As far as speed ive run astlinux on the older soekris net4801, and was only
able to get about 5 simultaneous calls at a time esp if any call was on the
voicemail system or hearing Music on hold.. I did a little better if it was
just straight up calls.
On my net5501 im able to easily pull off 20 calls at a time.
I don't do any transcoding and no voice compression.
My net5501's are installed as legacy PBX replacements, where I have SIP to a
T1 gateway and then TDM T1 to the PSTN..
The alix 6E2 board gives me very good performance also.. the only reason I
tend to use more soekris than alix is the fact the net5501 has 512 MB of RAM
to the alix 256 MB of RAM... I want to try and stay out of the Swap space as
much as possible.. as that's a real performance killer. I also like to run
a RAMdisk and have my static voice files there during runtime.

Subject: [Astlinux-users] Another hardware inquiry
I am running on an Alix board now, but investigating other options for a
future install. These caught my eye:

<http://netx86.com/index.php?main_page=index&cPath=66> &cPath=66
Any feed back from the group on these boards? Do you think the 300Mhz would
be okay, or would I regret not going with the 1GHz? This is for a home
office type application with 3 extensions, IP only. Am I missing something
that would make these not happy to run Astlinux?
If no feedback on these I will probably go with another Alix.
Regards,
Michael
PS. Another thanks to Philip for his contributions.
