I did a test migration from 1.4 to 1.8 a couple of weeks ago but went back
to 1.4 after I saw evidence of Asterisk 1.8 hanging/locking up twice in the
space of a week.

However, in the time that I was using it I did confirm that SIP/TCP works
(used iSip iPhone application to test). It is not enabled by default, you
need to edit the .conf files to turn it on. Also confirmed that fax receive
(to tiff and convert to pdf then email to self) works.

I had very minor dialplan changes, but nothing that prevented me from
sending/receiving calls from the get go.
