Re: Corona Virus: is it the beginning of the end?

If you know you have something potentially fatal, and you don't disclose that to significant people in your life, I agree that you should face the consequences. The difference here is that there are too many unknowns. Perhaps no one understood how deadly HIV was when it was first discovered, so they had a similarly cavalier attitude towards its transmission as some do with the coronavirus. On the other hand, there is one slippery slope that no one can deny exists. People of certain races are going to be unfairly treated because of their possible association with this thing. No one wants to say it, but that is true. The majority of people are going to look at someone of Asian descent and automatically think they're infected in these troubled times. That's not right, either. So, if said people actually do have it, and disclose, that's kind of like an I told you so moment for all these smug people who feel secure in their bigoted views.

Also, I don't remember which post it was, but someone asked if I was advocating a revolution against the government. I certainly am not, but I know that Americans, in particular, won't accept being confined to their homes, particularly if the military is actually going to jail or even kill people for disobeying orders. That will have the exact opposite effect, particularly if they're already desperate. Does the average person have enough food and/or financial resources to tide them over for 6 months if they literally have no way of obtaining more? No? Well, then don't expect them to behave in a civilized manner when it's either their survival or the survival of the herd. Plus, everyone has a breaking point as to how long they can stay in one place. If you're blind, you might not think about it, especially if you're not employed and you don't go that many places as a result. The average sighted person, however, can at least go out for a drive if they're feeling stressed. We may be more passive, as I said, but strip that small freedom away from the entire population at large, and there are going to be massive problems. It doesn't matter whether any drastic measures taken by the government are right or wrong in the end. The impact of said measures will always be far, far worse than anything this virus is capable of. Domestic violence, suicide, escalating drug use, looting, vandalism, and every other bad thing you can imagine will spike if a nationwide lockdown were to take place. I honestly don't get what's so hard to understand about that.
