It worked in the US though. Turned most of the Conservative party against China which is exactly what the Republican agenda is. Just like we used the terror attacks of September 2001 to justify killing thousands and thousands of Muslims, the US has managed to use this virus to justify anger against China, to get the population on its side re: trade wars.
Someone made a good point to me a while ago that the utter amazement of government incompetency has caused me to scream "conspiracy" because I simply can't process how the elite can be so incompetent, but if you really look at what it's done here in the US you can see that the Coronavirus has fit the Conservative ideology very well in terms of fear-mongering.
People are starting to find radical jihadist Islamist fundamentalist terrorists rather boring nowadays and most of the US is waking up to the fact that domestic terrorism is more of a threat than the jihadis, so scaring people about Muslims no longer works as well as it used to. Just look at the overall reaction to the killing of al-Baghdadi: most of us went "don't care; we don't even know who he is." Hence, the US needs a new enemy or Lockheed Martin will suffer.
