Speaker positioning is very important for psychoacoustics. Aiming the speakers directly towards you seems to work the best.
I never had any soundstage until I changed my interconnects. I dumped my MonsterCable and made my own interconnects from 30 gauge ultra pure silver wire. It doesn't sound like it would work, but voila! my system has a very believable soundstage now. Also, the materials me about $40-50.
