Regardless of what the stated power requirements are it is considered
good practice to double it. So a SB3 needs 1.5amps but to run a 1.5a
PSU flat out like that will lead to premature failure through component
stress and the likelyhood that running at the edge of its design spec
will introduce more mains garbage than you were hoping to cure. You
need at least a 3amp PSU or, if you have the space, something even
bigger.

Bear in mind the new PSU needs to be built to a high specification for
correct smoothing and to ensure you only get a constant 5v out of it
even if the mains goes up and down. Only one I have found that meets my
needs so far is this one:
http://www.lambda-gb.com/uk/range_overviews/range_id19.htm - the HSB 5
3.0. You could also go for the 6 amp version if you want overkill.

I am currently building a PSU using one of these modules - basically a
steel box (to minimise RFI), the module bolted inside and mains in, 5V
cable out.

About the only improvement I can think of is to find a similar unit
with a toroidal transformer rather than a frame one as this will reduce
RFI dramatically. As yet I have not found one at a reasonable price.
