The sub comes with one of those, it's called a crossover. Your mains
have one too... 

You should investigate tweaking the crossover in you mains if you feel
they are trying to produce too much bass. There are some DIY articles
if you search.

As Robin says, you WANT your mains to go as low as possible, without
distortion. If your mains can do -3db at 45Hz, why limit their
extension if not for distortion? Setting your sub's low pass filter to
50Hz and leaving your mains crossover as is would give you a nice
seamless crossover point between the two speakers. The trick is finding
your in-room -3db point...

Also, if you have a tape loop, you don't need yAdapters. Spend the
money on music ;-)
