Apologies if this has already beendone to death but I need to replace my Quad setup (63s + Gradient subwoofers + 606s + 66 pre / CD / FM) with something that is a little easier on the eye to my wife.
It is the speakers that get her goat particularly and I would have to admit that they are not exactly inconspicuous! The listening toom is a reasonable size (16ft x 20ft) and I am working my way through my collection of CDs, encoding them to flac. The questions I would very much appreciate guidance on are .. - does anyone have a view on active speakers for a room of this size and for reproduction of this quality - should I look to go totally active or use some of the equipment I already have in which case remain passive and does anyone else use the Quad gear (amps) in this way Overall objective is to reduce the number of unnecessary boxes in the room, retain sound quality (or therabouts) and get speakers in that are a little less intrusive (over 5ft high standing in the woofers + broad). Any assistance / positive comments etc gratefully received.
