Lets switch terminology so it makes more sense:

"Reversed polarity" is when rarification is replaced by compression,
and vice versa (in sound wawes).

"Delay" is when some component of a complex sound wave arrives delayed
relative to some other component. A given time delay for a given
frequency can be expressed as a phase shift of a number of degrees.

Note: Since the ear is a frequency analyser it may or may not care
about such delays. Any such delay may be totally unrelated to reversed
polarity issues, as far as the ear is concerned. (Or it may not be -my
point is that the two things are not the same.)
