A word of warning to anyone trying this test with loudspeakers. About 15 years ago I was experimenting with a test CD, and could hear the 18kHz band, but not the 20kHz one. I then took leave of my senses and thought, "maybe if I turn up the volume I'll be able to hear 20kHz". I didn't hear the 20kHz tone, but of course what I did hear was the distinctive "pop-pop" as both tweeters in one of my Linn Isobariks burnt out. (Luckily the tone was only playing through one channel).
FWIW, I'm now 49, and the 16kHz was easy to hear, but the 17kHz seemingly silent.
