I am surprised for the opposite reason, assuming you just picked out a
CD at random and found 4 CU errors on it. If I picked out a random CD
from my collection (some of which are 20 years old), I'd expect to get
zero CU errors.

I didn't actually keep a count at the time, but when I was ripping the
whole shooting match (over 1000 CDs) for my SB setup, I'd estimate
there were less than a dozen which had any CU errors at all (including
the bronzed PDO ones!). Maybe the fact I was using a Plextor drive
might have some relevance.
