My guess is that this was a product pushed by Sean against the advice of others in the company and that consumers have ended up with a compromise between Sean's current obsession with quality and the audiophile market and the market realities (profit) pushed by others in the company. So we've ended up with a product that, although technically brilliant, does not fit the Audiophile market for (at least) two reasons: 1) The software is just not up to it (it's very hard to believe that Slimserver 6.5 will be OK enough by September... at least judging by my last two years experience). 2) It looks pretty pants. It looks like something out of the seventies... all fuss. The remote is the thing most people use surely? Yet the remote looks cheap and the unit has loads of buttons. Do many (audiophile) people get off their sofa, walk to the thing, and then bend down to press buttons? Surely not. It should definitely be a box with a good remote (maybe even one with a display) and much less fuss. Even more worrying is that even I with my 46 year old cloth ears can easily hear the difference between my DAC1 and the Squeezebox DAC (unfortunately neither compare to the loveliness of a Naim CDX).
