There are certain circumstances encountered in studio environments that are unlike any domestic situation. Specifically, it is possible to get unexpected bursts of very high level signals and also runaway acoustic feedback. These are caused by accidental patching mistakes or even something as simple as moving the wrong slider by mistake. These can be very painful with normal phones. I would NOT like to have the same thing injected directly into my auditory canal. Whilst I agree re: IEMS in normal domestic use, I would not personally use them in the potentially more dangerous environment of a studio - unless I had a brickwall limiter in the monitoring chain.
