Ok, I was perhaps a little too general saying "active preamp", because
as you say, the Transporter does offer a "reasonable" analog output
voltage.  But you do need to match carefully with an amp that has a
relatively high input sensitivity.  I know that most of the preamps
that I have generally liked, a max output voltage of 10vrms+ seems to
be the minimum (I use a preamp that has an output voltage of 25vrms).

I used to own a Resolution Audio Opus 21, which had a max output
voltage of 5vrms on its balanced outputs (slightly higher than the
Transporter's 3vrms), and while I enjoyed the transparency and clarity
of the sound, I found that it lacked the punch/drive/body that I get
when use my preamp.  My amps have somewhat low input sensitivity...
