Ok, let's start at the beginning.

I have a very expensive (1K GBP) CD player circa 1988 - Meridian 207
two box affair with pre-amp, a quality power amp (British- AVI) and
some good floor standing speakers. i.e. a decentish hi-fi which I was
very happy with.

Until - I decided to rip all my CD (lots) onto my PC and the only
possible connection between PC and hi-fi was soundcard (Soundblaster
that came with 2005 Dell) analogue out to line in on pre-amp. The
difference in sound quality between music on PC (lossless of course)
and CD player is large. But the convenience is huge - I control all my
music via wireless PDA.

My question is - if I buy SB3, will the DAC in it give me a
substantially better sound (I can't afford to spend $2k on the new
box) than my Creative Soundcard DAC + 5 metres of line out cableto my
hi-fi?

Thoughts thanks!
