First point: the DAC in the SB3 is heaps better than the one in your Soundblaster Live 24, so it will certainly sound better.
Secondly: you say your Meridian CD player is a two-box affair. Do you mean it has a separate DAC? If it does, then you could feed it from the SB3's digital output, and get pretty much exactly the same sound quality as you get from the CD player. (Let's not get bogged down at this stage in the debate over whether different transports sound different using the same DAC). Even then, it's possible (but by no means certain) that the SB3 DAC is in fact better than the 1988 vintage Meridian DAC. -- cliveb Performers -> dozens of mixers and effects -> clipped/hypercompressed mastering -> you think a few extra ps of jitter matters? ------------------------------------------------------------------------ cliveb's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=348 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=27485 _______________________________________________ audiophiles mailing list [email protected] http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/audiophiles
