OMG, OMG, OMG!!! I just cannot believe the sound emminating from my hifi now!
NOW, I believe CD is better than LP (but I have yet to test LP with the changes). I made lots of shorting RCAs and two 4.7 kOhm RCAs to put on the SB3 just in case the output also received RF. After putting the shorting RCAs in a few at a time I could hear much of the improvement experienced with the extra interconnects in place. After each new set of RCAs the sound altered characteristics a fair bit. All-in-all I was pretty happy with the sound, although the sound before, using only the extra interconnects was somehow more energic and "live" in feeling. Then i removed the 4.7k RCAs from the SB3 and on set of RCAs from the analogue inputs on the TacT, and put my interconnects back in place (now with all other inputs plugged). I sat back expecting to have to strain myself to hear what changed. But, no, OMG, OMG! The sound was totally transformed into something I have never ever heard from a hifi system. It swelled out into the room and way away into the distance. The old Nina Simone recording, with all its ambience, sounded better than any audiophile style recording I've ever heard on any system before. (This recording used to sound old (frequency limited) and a bit flat!) Speakers: "gone" or audibly invisible. Just a panoramic window. Imaging: Pin-point. Just like in life. (And wide front speakers arent supposed to image..) Glare i used to account to my hard not very well acoustically treated room: Gone! (I.e. harsh brass sounds, and the like.) Dynamics and percussive "whack": Much better than ever before. The main problem is that the right sound level is live level, and it sounds just right (everything in the recorded environment becomes present), but it will affect my hearing if I don't watch out. Second thing is that I'm more afraid than ever to blow my irreplacable speakers, as the sound is so clear and unstraining that turning the volume up to silly levels feels natural. I've had quite a few different things in my system, but never approached this level before. It is beyond what I thought was possible, and I'll have to eat humble pie when it comes to creating a system indistinguishable from reality. I believe it can be done now. (If it sounds so good in my living room..) Sorry to sound so over the top, but this was something I didn't expect. Oh, almost forgot to mention the wife test: She seemed astonished as well -which doesn't happen often. -- P Floding ------------------------------------------------------------------------ P Floding's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=2932 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=28307 _______________________________________________ audiophiles mailing list [email protected] http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/audiophiles
