Nice post. Remember, the two best ways to listen to stereo, assuming your living environment will allow it, are:
1. On-axis, in a equilateral triangle. The speakers are X feet apart. You are the same X feet from each speaker. On-axis means they are pointed at your ears. 2. This is incredible, this is the way stereo was meant to sound, but it's too much of an imposition for most of us (that includes me). However, it is fun to try: near field, 90' position. This means that you sit much, much closer so that the angle formed by the speakers and you is 90'. You're at the point of the triangle, the speakers are on-axis, and if you hold your arms out, they form a 90' angle. This was more or less established by Blumlein and has more or less remained a standard. Try it. The increase in image tightness will knock your socks off. I can't do it in my living room, but, when the family is out, I sometimes scooch the ottomon up close and tilt in my speakers. It's lovely.
